Congress general secretary in charge of Punjab, Harish Rawat, on Monday created a stir by saying that the Congress President will decide who will be the CM after the elections. This statement of Harish Rawat has started raising doubts about whether the current Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi is retained by the Congress party after the elections or not. However, Harish Rawat said that there is no estrangement between Channi and Punjab State President Navjot Singh Sidhu and both will work together to win the 2022 elections.
Harish Rawat said in a conversation with the media, "Both CM Charanjit Singh Channi and Navjot Singh Sidhu will cooperate on everything. They will work together to win the next election. The Congress President will then decide who will be the next CM." Rawat said all these things during the joining of BJP leader and Uttarakhand cabinet minister Yashpal Arya in New Delhi.
Harish Rawat quipped when asked about Sidhu's resignation as PCC chief. Said- "What. resignation? We have not seen any resignations. We have only read about it in the newspapers." Let us tell you that on September 28, Sidhu had posted his resignation from the post of Punjab Congress President on Twitter.
Rawat on Monday indicated that the resignation was not accepted. On the tension between the Chief Minister and Sidhu, he said that whatever the issues are, they will be resolved within the party by the CM and Sidhu.
He also downplayed Sidhu's recent public reactions to the CM and said that there is currently no proposal to form a committee in Punjab to coordinate the party and the government.
