PM Modi made a record: Leaving behind Indira, he became the second leader to remain Prime Minister continuously for the longest time.

On 25 July, today, Narendra Modi became the second-longest-serving Prime Minister of the country. PM Modi surpassed the record of former PM Indira Gandhi. Until now, Jawaharlal Nehru has been in the post of Prime Minister continuously for the longest time (16 years, 286 days). Narendra Modi is the longest-serving Prime Minister of a non-Hindi state born after independence in 1947.

 

Prime Minister Modi will complete 4078 days of his tenure on Friday. Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister for 4077 consecutive days from 24 January 1966 to 24 March 1977. If we talk about leading the government in the state and the center, then Narendra Modi has a record among all the Prime Ministers. He has led the government for 24 years as the Chief Minister of Gujarat and Prime Minister.

First PM born after independence

 

Narendra Modi is the first Prime Minister who be born after the country. He is also the first non-Congress Prime Minister to hold the longest term. He is the first and only non-Congress Prime Minister to have completed at least two full terms. He also holds the record of being the first and only non-Congress Prime Minister to be elected twice in a row.

 

First non-Congress PM to get an absolute majority

 

PM Modi is also the first and only non-Congress leader to form a government by securing an absolute majority in the Lok Sabha elections. He is the first Prime Minister to be re-elected with an absolute majority after Indira Gandhi (1971). Apart from Pandit Nehru, he is the only Prime Minister to have won three consecutive general elections as the leader of a party. He is the only leader among all Prime Ministers and Chief Ministers to have won six consecutive elections as the leader of a party. He won the Gujarat Assembly elections in 2002, 2007, and 2012, followed by the 2014, 2019, and 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
