While Afghanistan missed out on creating history, South Africa has thrown off the tag of chokers by making it to the final. Afghanistan had to face defeat by 9 wickets in the first semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024. Captain Rashid Khan looked disappointed after the defeat. He said that the tournament was very good for us. This has given confidence to the team.

 

Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan won the toss and decided to bat first. However, his decision did not go in favor of the team, and the entire team was reduced to just 56 runs in 11.5 overs in front of South Africa's bowling. At the same time, chasing the target, South Africa won the match by scoring 60 runs in 8.5 overs, losing just one wicket. Fazalhaq Farooqui got the only wicket.

 

Rashid Khan's brave reply

 

"After the defeat, Rashid Khan said, this is a difficult night for us as a team. We could have done better, but the circumstances were not in our favor. However, in international cricket, you have to be ready to deal with every situation. I am very satisfied with the performance of the fast bowlers. In this tournament, the fast bowlers gave us a good start, due to which it became easier for me and other spinners to bowl."

Rashid further said this tournament was very good for us. This has given us the confidence that we can beat any team. We especially need to work on batting. Especially the middle order needs improvement. We cannot always depend on the top order. We will try to improve it in the next tournament. We played the semi-finals and will accept losing to a top team like Africa."
