The excavation was carried out on the second day on Sunday in search of the 150-year-old step well found buried in an empty plot at a short distance from the Banke Bihari temple in the Muslim-dominated locality Laxmanganj of Chandausi in Sambhal. During the excavation, four rooms were found in the step well. There is also a tunnel-like path in the step well. Officials say that the excavation of the step well will continue.
The step well located near the Bankebihari temple was found on Saturday. On Sunday morning, the administration and the municipality team reached there and the digging was started.
During the excavation, four rooms were seen in the step well, in which a tunnel is visible. On receiving the information about the rooms and tunnel found in the step well, DM Rajendra Pansiya and SP Krishna Kumar Vishnoi reached the spot. The DM called the revenue team on the spot and saw the map of the step well land and took stock of the situation. The DM said that in the records, the step well is recorded as a pond in an area of 400 square meters. This step well is said to be from the time of the maternal grandfather of the king of Bilari, which is about 150 years old.
The DM said that during the excavation, the step well was found to be of three floors. Two floors are made of marble. One floor is made of bricks. It also has wells and four rooms. On the question of surveying by ASI, the DM said that if needed, the Directorate of Archaeology will be requested in this regard. The DM said that along with the step well, the temple will also be renovated. So that people can worship there. For this, encroachment will also be removed.

A few days ago, a ruined ancient Bankebihari temple was found in Mohalla Laxman Ganj. After this, the province publicity chief of Sanatan Sevak Sangh, Kaushal Kishore Vande Mataram, gave a letter to DM Rajendra Pansiya in the Sampoorna Samadhan Diwas on Saturday and claimed that there is a step well near the temple in Mohalla Laxman Ganj. Taking cognizance of the matter, ADM Judicial Satish Kumar Kushwaha and Tehsildar Dhirendra Singh were sent to the spot along with the team of the municipality and were ordered to dig a plot to search for the stepwell.
