Thanks to Hardik Pandya's all-around performance and Rishabh Pant's first ODI century, Team India defeated England by 5 wickets in the third ODI. With this, India won the 3-match series by 2-1. After 8 years, India defeated England in the ODI series at their home. Earlier in the series held in 2014, Team India won 3-1.
Batting first after losing the toss, England was all out on the score of 259 runs in 45.5 overs. Hardik took four wickets. In reply, India achieved the target in 42.1 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. Pant remained unbeaten on 125 off 113 balls. Hardik Pandya scored 71 runs.
After the failure of Dhawan-Rohit-Virat took over the innings
Chasing the challenging target, India did not start well. The team lost three wickets to the score of 38 runs and four wickets till the score of 72 runs. Shikhar Dhawan 1, captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli got out after scoring 17-17 runs. Suryakumar Yadav could also score only 16 runs. After this, Pant and Hardik added 133 runs in the fifth wicket partnership to put India on the winning track. When Hardik got out, India's score was 205 runs. After this, Pant gave the victory to Team India by showering fours.
Dhawan-Rohit-Virat flop again
Shikhar Dhawan once again could not do anything special. In the third over of the match, Reece Topley made him his victim. Dhawan could only score 1 run in 3 balls. In the first match of the series, Dhawan was dismissed for 31 and in the second match, he scored 9 runs.
After Dhawan's dismissal, Rohit Sharma also could not bat for long. He also became a victim of Reece Topley by scoring 17 runs in 17 balls. Kohli got off to a good start once again and he had also scored 17 runs in 22 balls, but once again gave his wicket to Reece Topley in a familiar style. The ball was going outside the off-stump and Virat went to tease it and caught the wicketkeeper, Butler. After Kohli's dismissal, Suryakumar Yadav and Pant took over the Indian innings for some time, but Surya made 16 runs in 28 balls and was caught by Butler on the ball of Overton.
Butler, Moeen, and tail batsmen handled the innings
Thanks to the excellent bowling of Siraj and Pandya, India took four wickets of England to the score of 74 runs. Moeen and Butler then added 75 runs in the fifth wicket partnership. After the break of this partnership, Butler added 49 runs for the sixth wicket with Liam Livingston.
Livingston had a score of 198 and Butler was out with a score of 199. After this, David Willey (18) and Craig Overton (32) played small but important innings to take England to the fighting total. Jos Buttler scored the highest 60 runs for England.
Jadeja's amazing in the field
Ravindra Jadeja got one wicket in the match. He dismissed Moeen Ali. 34 runs came off Moeen's bat. Butler was dismissed for the 22nd fifty of his ODI career off 65 balls. Jadeja also took two brilliant catches in the match. Jadeja caught this catch by Liam Livingstone and Jos Buttler on the deep square leg boundary. Hardik Pandya took both the wickets.
Siraj took two wickets in an over
Mohammad Siraj sent two English batsmen to the pavilion in his very first over. He first dismissed Jonny Bairstow and then got Joe Root caught by captain Rohit Sharma. Both the batsmen could not even open their accounts.
Hardik did not let England recover
After two early wickets, Jason Roy and Ben Stokes took over the English innings and the duo shared a 47-ball 54-run partnership for the third wicket. Hardik Pandya broke the partnership between these two. He got Jason Roy caught by Rishabh Pant. 41 runs came off 31 balls from Roy's bat.
Hardik did not stop here, he also dismissed Ben Stokes on a brilliant ball. Ben Stokes wanted to go ahead and play a big shot when Hardik bowled the ball. Till Stokes understood the ball, the ball took the edge of the bat. Pandya took a brilliant catch off his ball. After this, Hardik also sent Liam Livingstone and Jos Buttler to the pavilion and took 4 wickets in the match.
