The India Alliance of opposition parties staged a strong protest in the Parliament premises against the ongoing voter list revision process, i.e., SIR in Bihar. Many MPs, including Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Dimple Yadav, symbolically tore the copy of the voter list and threw it in the dustbin, and accused the government of weakening democracy. The leaders say that this entire process is an attempt to snatch the voting rights of the people by running it just before the elections.

SIR against the Constitution - Kharge

 

Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said that the government intends to keep the poor out of voting, so that only the rich vote. This entire process is against the Constitution. We are fighting against this, SIR. Kharge also registered his protest by tearing the SIR list and throwing it in the dustbin.

Dimple Yadav raised the issue of transparency.

Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav said that the entire opposition is united because the Election Commission is working at the behest of the government. If this process was necessary, then why was it not done earlier? Why is it being done suddenly before the elections? This will affect about 50 lakh voters and there is no transparency in the entire process.

 

Statement of Shiv Sena's Priyanka Chaturvedi

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said that it is clear from the language of Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai that there is malice in this process. The Supreme Court has also said that the demand for documents that are difficult to obtain is unfair. The Election Commission should include alternative documents in the list.

 

BJP MLA's counterattack

 

At the same time, BJP MLA Haribhushan Thakur hit back at the opposition and said that the opposition has no issue. They only know how to create a ruckus. The people of the state are watching everything. He also targeted Rahul Gandhi and said that if he did not have family property, he would not have been in this position. He is a confused leader.
