Russia has invaded Ukraine. Russian fighter planes are hovering over Ukraine's capital Kyiv. Bombing is happening all over the place. Many Indian students are stranded in Ukraine. The family members of the students are alleging that the same effort was not made to bring them home in time, as was done during the time of former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
However, now the Government of India has become active in this matter and PM Narendra Modi has held a high-level meeting. Before discussing the efforts of the government and the contribution of Sushma Swaraj, you can give your opinion on this poll.
According to a report, at present, about 20 thousand Indians are trapped in Ukraine. A large number of them are medical students. Indian students stranded in Ukraine and their families here are missing Sushma Swaraj and her way of working at such times. On a tweet while his foreign minister, the ship of India used to reach to bring the stranded Indians abroad.
Seeing the reaction of Indian users on social media, it seems that everyone is liking Sushma Swaraj's way of working better.
5 years, 186 countries, 90 thousand Indians helped
Sushma Swaraj changed the meaning of the Ministry of External Affairs when she was the External Affairs Minister. She was the Foreign Minister from 2014 to 2019. The Ministry of External Affairs, which was considered a ministry of high profile and big people, was then called the Ministry of the common Indians. The main purpose of which became to help the common Indians facing difficulties abroad. During her tenure of five years, Sushma Swaraj had helped more than 90 thousand Indians in 186 countries.
When the war was stopped to save the Indians
In 2015, a fierce war broke out in Yemen between Saudi coalition forces and Houthi rebels. Saudi coalition forces were continuously bombing the Yemeni capital Sanaa. In such a situation, thousands of Indian workers trapped in Yemen appealed to Sushma Swaraj for help. But due to the fighter planes hovering over the city, no civilian ship could land in Sanaa.
In such a situation, on the initiative of Sushma Swaraj, the Government of India asked Saudi Arabia to stop the attack for some time. Sushma Swaraj also convinced Saudi Arabia of this with her diplomacy. After which Saudi stopped the bombing during the day for a week. Meanwhile, more than 5 thousand Indians trapped there returned safely to their homeland. This was known as 'Operation Rahat'.
VK Singh himself used to bring Indians, also helped foreigners
While Sushma Swaraj's external affairs minister, many high officials including Minister of State for External Affairs General VK Singh themselves used to bring Indian citizens to the country by visiting war-affected areas. In 2015, more than 2,000 foreign nationals from 48 countries, along with five thousand Indians, were evacuated from war zones from Yemen. This was a time when foreign governments appealed to India to evacuate its citizens from war zones along with Indians. Foreign citizens came to India safely with the Indians and then used to go to their country from here.
From Sudan to Libya were made 'troublemakers'
Sushma Swaraj used to come into action immediately for the Indians trapped in war or any kind of danger abroad. In 2016, 500 people were brought to India by conducting 'Operation 'Sankatmochan' for the Indians trapped in the war in South Sudan. Similarly, Indians were brought home in time before the Libyan war. A domestic female worker trapped in Saudi was cut off by her Saudi boss. Sushma Swaraj raised this matter prominently and the woman was called to India.
On the same lines, Sushma Swaraj had engaged the entire government staff to find her family by bringing the dumb-deaf Geeta to India after wandering to Pakistan. Similarly, an Indian girl trapped in Germany without a passport and money was also called to India.
Such a foreign minister who used to talk about saving Indians from Mars too
One has to get treatment in India or has to go outside India for treatment. Whether the passport was confiscated by the owner abroad or some other crisis, Sushma Swaraj used to show up with her entire government staff to help in just a tweet. Tweeting to Sushma Swaraj was considered a guarantee of help. Once, while replying to a user, Sushma Swaraj had said, 'Even if you are stranded on Mars, the Indian Embassy will reach there to help you.'
