Teesta Setalvad: Teesta Setalvad gets relief from the Supreme Court, and the period of interim protection extended

The Supreme Court has again provided relief to Teesta Setalvad in a case. The apex court has extended the interim protection granted to Teesta Setalvad in a case of alleged fabrication of evidence in connection with the 2002 Gujarat riots.

 

The next hearing will be on July 19

With this, the Supreme Court has fixed the hearing of the case on July 19. Earlier, the Gujarat High Court had rejected his application for regular bail. The High Court had directed him to surrender immediately. This was challenged in the Supreme Court.

 

A bench of Justices BR Gavai, AS Bopanna, and Justice Dipankar Datta issued notice to the Gujarat government on the appeal filed by Setalvad against the Gujarat High Court order. Earlier, on July 1, the apex court had granted protection from arrest to Setalvad.

Let us tell you that after the Gujarat riots, the state government has opposed the plea to acquit Teesta Setalvad of conspiring to get innocent people punished by making false affidavits and false witnesses.

 

Setalvad was accused of trapping the victims

Additional Sessions Judge Ambalal Patel was told by the Gujarat government that Teesta Setalvad had broken the trust of the 2002 Gujarat riot victims. The government argued that a conspiracy has been hatched to implicate many innocent citizens and officers by making fake affidavits and presenting the names of the victims.

Please inform that Teesta Setalvad was arrested by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch on June 2022. Former IPS officers RB Kumar and Sanjeev Bhatt were made co-accused in the case.
