Hyderabad, March 18 (IANS) The Telangana assembly on Wednesday unanimously passed a resolution urging the central government to set up a separate high court for the state.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao moved a resolution in the assembly calling for bifurcation of the united high court located in Hyderabad in accordance with the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act and the Constitution of India.
He said the high court should be divided for the benefit of both the new states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
All the parties supported the resolution, which was adopted unanimously.
The chief minister told the House that he is moving the resolution as Union Law Minister Sadananda Gowda, during his recent visit to Hyderabad, stated that steps for setting up a separate high court will be initiated once the Telangana government submits a proposal.
Gowda had also said in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that Telangana will have its own high court soon.
