The Uttar Pradesh government is now going to take more stringent measures to protect cattle and prevent crimes related to cow slaughter. Under this, such crimes will be made cognizable and non-bailable. Penalties and fines will also be increased. There will now be a ten-year sentence for misbehaving. Till now, there was no provision for punishment for harming the cow. Now the provision of punishment from one year to seven years has been made in it. This step will help in harming the bovine animals and curbing their illegal and irregular transport.
For this, the government will bring the Uttar Pradesh Go-Slaughter Prevention (Amendment) Ordinance-2020. Its draft was approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. When the Legislature is in session, it will be passed by both houses in the form of a Bill. Its purpose is to completely stop the incidents of Gokshi and crimes related to the cow.
Ten years imprisonment for foxing
Anyone who violates the provisions of Section-3, Section-5 or Section-5 'A' or seeks to violate or is motivated to violate, shall be punished with imprisonment from three years to 10 years. The fine will range from three lakhs to five lakhs. If found guilty once again, he will be punished with double penalties. The names, photographs, place of residence of the accused of such offenses will be published.
Action will be taken against the driver, vehicle owner and operator if the beef turns out
If the beef is confirmed by the competent authority or authorized laboratory then the driver, operator and vehicle owner will be prosecuted under the Act. If it is proved that the means of transport used in crime has been used by someone else for committing the crime, despite all the precautions of the means of transport and without its knowledge. So this will be out of scope.
Maintenance cost of recovered cow
The cows which will be recovered and the expenditure on the maintenance of their cows will be recovered in favor of the owner for a period of one year from the accused or until the cow or cows are released, whichever is earlier.
Up to three lakh fine for damage to bovine pushes
There were no punishments for transporting animals in physical conditions that endangered or disrupted their lives by physical damage to bovine animals. Now committing this crime will be imprisonment for a minimum of one year and may extend to 7 years. The fine can range from one lakh to three lakhs.
The government says that Section-8 of Uttar Pradesh Govt Prevention Act-1955 provides for maximum punishment of 7 years for incidents of cow slaughter. Cases of people involved in the said incidents are increasing. After the bail of the accused in the events of Gokshi, after getting bail from the court, there have been cases of involvement in such incidents again.
