It is important to build a consensus among the world community to stop the use of internet media by terrorists. The matter has been given a lot of importance in the declaration issued at the meeting of the Counter-Terrorism Committee of the United Nations Security Council in New Delhi. This declaration is part of a resolution that has been passed by the Counter-Terrorism Committee of the United Nations Security Council after being taken up by India. This initiative taken against terrorism is welcome.
Different platforms of internet media have become toolkits of terrorists. Such cases have been coming to the fore and debated on these, but till now no requisite or concrete action has been taken. Yes, continuous efforts have been made on behalf of many countries for this. The present manifesto raises concerns over the increasing use of information and communication technology, including Internet media platforms, for terrorist purposes.
The manifesto states that the use of Internet media by terrorist organizations has increased. Along with this, new arrangements like crowdfunding have also increased the risk of terrorists raising financial resources. The dangerous nexus of technology and terrorism needs serious and urgent attention. Although the governments of many countries around the world are also monitoring the Internet media, terrorists have so far been successful in their plans. India also has strict laws and surveillance systems regarding the use of the internet by terrorists.
Recently a youth was arrested in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama for spreading propaganda of terrorism through internet media. Earlier, an activist of a human rights organization was also arrested for mentally preparing people in support of terrorism through internet media. Both of them were misleading people through internet media by telling terror and terrorists to be right and government policies wrong. To achieve this purpose, both of them used to upload such materials on the internet media.
Today terrorism spread through internet media has become a major problem in the world. Terrorists benefit from this. So is internet media only to take care of the convenience of terrorists? If it is not, then why is it not being closed for these functions? According to intelligence agencies, for a long time, the Internet has become a favorite weapon of terrorist organizations including Islamic State. Almost all terrorist organizations are making full use of internet media. Through this, they have also been successful in carrying out dangerous designs. These organizations are also running their recruitment drive through this medium, also collecting money for themselves.
Why are they not being banned? Is there no way to stop this? And if so why is it not being done? It is to be hoped that all countries will abide by the resolution made in the UN Security Council Declarations in New Delhi and soon the aid to terrorist organizations through internet media will be stopped.
