The Textiles Ministry approved 23 strategic research projects worth about Rs 60 crore in the areas of Specialty Fibers, Sustainable Textiles, Geotextiles, Mobiltech, and Sports Textiles. These strategic research projects come under the flagship program 'National Technical Textiles Mission'.
Out of these 23 research projects, 12 projects on specialty fibers in agriculture, smart textiles, healthcare, strategic applications, and protective gears, and four in sustainable textiles with application areas in the agriculture and healthcare sectors have been approved. Along with this, five projects from Geotextile and one each from Mobiltech and Sportec have been approved.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in July had asked banks to make additional arrangements to conclude export and import transactions in rupees. Because of the increasing interest of the global business community in the Indian currency, RBI had proposed to introduce this facility.
