British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has lambasted China in his first speech on foreign policy. Sunak said on Monday that the ideals and interests of England remain a constant threat from China. Due to this, the 'Golden Era' of Britain's relations with China now ends.
Sunak is very angry with the assault on a BBC journalist who was covering the demonstrations against the Covid policy in China. After this, he talked about changing the strategy regarding the change in relations with China. He also said that China is continuously using every force for its dominance in the world.
Will the 2015 policy end?
Sunak on Tuesday indicated to cancel of the policy made on the relations between Britain and China, which was made in the year 2015. Sunak described this policy as a childish idea and said that trade with China would not bring any social or political change there. The opposition was constantly accusing Sunak that he was not adopting a strict policy regarding China. Instead of China, now Britain will increase relations with other countries in Asia-Pacific.
Golden era policy was made to improve relations with China
The Golden Era Policy regarding relations with China was formulated in the year 2015. Which was announced by the then UK Prime Minister David Cameron before Xi Jinping's UK visit. The purpose of this policy was to improve relations between Britain and China and strengthen trade.
China arrested a BBC journalist who went to cover the protest
Ed Lawrence, a BBC reporter covering the protests in Shanghai, was arrested by Chinese police. He was thrashed shortly afterward, then released. According to the BBC, the police tied his hands, beat him, and even kicked him. Here, the Chinese officials clarified that Ed Lawrence had not disclosed at the time of his arrest that he was a journalist. He did not even have an identity or press card.
