The country's maritime security is going to get further strengthened. The recently inducted indigenous aircraft carrier 'INS Vikrant' will also get its aircraft by May or June next year. Navy Chief Admiral R. Hari Kumar gave this information on Wednesday. Talking to reporters after inspecting the passing out parade of the 143rd batch at the National Defense Academy (NDA) at Khadakwasla in Maharashtra's Pune district, Admiral Hari Kumar said that the aircraft carrier will be commissioned into the Navy only after sea trials are completed. has gone.

 

Now the trials of deploying the aircraft on the ship have started. “First of all, we have to test the landing system of the planes. These tests are still ongoing. They are normally deployed between six and eight months after the aircraft are inducted. We hope to complete it in May or June before the monsoon.

 

Admiral Hari Kumar said, 'The program of modernization is going on in the Indian Navy. We commissioned the first indigenous small warship in 1960. Since then we've been building bigger, and bigger ships. After that, we started making destroyers, culmination, and aircraft carriers. Incidentally, the (new) aircraft carrier is 76 percent indigenous. That's why it is a big achievement for the country. The Navy Chief said that 29 indigenously built ships and submarines have been inducted into the Navy in the last seven years. He said, 'At present, 45 ships are under construction, and out of these 43 are being built in the country.

 

For 49 more vessels, we are in the process of approving the requirement. So more focus is on the modernization plan and the government is helping us. The work is progressing as expected. When asked about the Indian Navy's budget, Admiral Hari Kumar said, 'There is no budget problem. The programs we are taking forward are getting adequate budgetary support from the government.

 

Women sailors being inducted into Navy: Navy Chief

Admiral Hari Kumar said that the Navy already has women fighter pilots and air operations officers and now women sailors are also being inducted. In the coming years, the remaining branches will also be opened for women.

 

The Navy Chief informed that about 10 lakh applications have been received for 3,000 vacancies of sailors in the Navy and out of these 82 thousand applications are from women. It is difficult to say how many of them will be able to meet all the criteria as the criteria of education and physical fitness are the same for all.
