27 bodies reached the district headquarters one after the other in the stampede after the Satsang in Sikandrarao area of Hathras district. By Wednesday morning, most of the 124 people who died in the stampede had been identified. Devotees from various districts of Uttar Pradesh as well as neighboring states had come to the satsang. After getting information about the accident, the relatives who came kept searching for their loved ones in the pile of dead bodies. Everyone's eyes became moist due to the gruesome scene and the cries of the relatives. The police and administration remained busy till late evening in identifying the bodies.
As the number of dead bodies increased at around 3 pm on Tuesday at the post-mortem house located in the medical college, the crowd also gathered. Ambulances kept coming with sirens and the pile of dead bodies kept increasing. Some injured were also brought to the medical college in private vehicles. Most of them died on the way.
The family members who had gone to the Satsang with them got lost in the crowd and kept searching for their loved ones. After 5 pm, the arrival of injured and dead bodies stopped. By then a huge crowd had gathered at the postmortem house. Seeing the crowd, police from all over the district were called to the mortuary.
The officials called the family members through loudspeakers and started completing the postmortem process of the bodies. ASP Dhananjay Singh Kushwaha took over the mike. Announcements were made to call the family members with the names and addresses found near the bodies. The postmortem of the bodies of the family members who arrived was started.
At 5 pm, SSP Rajesh Kumar Singh, ADM Administration Satyaprakash, and SDM Sadar Bhavana Vimal also arrived. These officials talked to the family members and kept consoling them. After this, people from political parties also reached out and consoled the victim's family.
Stampede after satsang in Hathras, 124 dead
About 124 people died in the stampede after the conclusion of the Satsang of Narayan Sakar Hari alias Bhole Baba organized in the fields along the National Highway of Fullerai Mughalgarhi village of Sikandrarao in Hathras.
This accident happened on Tuesday afternoon when there was a stampede among the followers to take the dust off Bhole Baba's feet while his convoy was passing by. In the stampede, many people fell in the muddy field near the highway and the crowd passed over them.
After the accident, amid the screams and cries, the dead bodies and the injured were taken to the trauma center of Sikandrarao and the medical college of Etah in a chaotic environment.
The number of women and children among the dead is high. Four of the dead have been identified. An investigation committee has been formed under the leadership of Divisional Commissioner Aligarh Chaitra V.
It has to submit its report within 24 hours. He said that the preliminary investigation has revealed that permission was sought for 20 thousand people to attend the program, but more than 50 thousand people attended it.
