The Parliament of Afghanistan is running in Greece, these women MPs have started; Have taken refuge from the Taliban

Afghan women lawmakers who escaped the Taliban have opened a new women's parliament to advocate for human rights while in exile in Greece. About half of the female Afghan lawmakers and senators currently live in Greece, where she will continue to campaign for women's rights in Afghanistan. It will also support the resettlement of refugees. The Independent has given this report.

 

Former Afghan MP Najifa Bek, who started this project, while talking to the media has told us that our work is not complete. We were elected by the Afghan people to represent them. The Afghan people, especially women and girls, are going through a serious humanitarian crisis. Wherever we are, we will continue to serve those people.

 

Before the Taliban captured Kabul, 27 percent of the Afghan parliament was held by women parliamentarians, known as the Wolesi Jirga or the House of the People. About 28 female parliamentarians based in Greece are part of the project, which will be open to all female Afghan parliamentarians. This can also include women MPs who are currently in Afghanistan or other countries. These MPs can virtually participate in the exile parliament.

 

Hamida Ahmedzai, chair of the Women's Parliament Committee, said the Taliban had destroyed two decades of progress in Afghanistan in a matter of weeks. We must continue to fight for the rights of our people and save those who are in danger. He has further said that we appeal to the international community not to give legitimacy to the Taliban.
