The effects of the snowfall in the mountains are now clearly visible in the plains. For the next week, the cold and dense fog will continue to spread across the plains of North India and several other parts of the country. During this period, the minimum temperature may drop by three to five degrees Celsius.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a cold wave warning for some states. The meteorological department says that a Western Disturbance is currently active over North India, and another is expected by December 27th. Due to these two disturbances, snowfall will continue in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, which will directly affect the plains in the form of cold winds.
Possibility of very dense fog
According to the Meteorological Department, dense to very dense fog is likely to prevail during the night and morning hours in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab until December 29th, in Uttarakhand until December 28th, and in Madhya Pradesh until December 25th. In Bihar, dense fog may persist in some areas until December 25th, which may extend between December 26th and 28th.
In addition, fog may persist in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Odisha until December 28th, in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Jharkhand until December 25th, and in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh until December 24th. Fog is also expected in Northeast India until December 26th.
Cold days in many areas
Currently, many areas of eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand are experiencing cold days and extremely cold days. The Meteorological Department has warned of a cold wave in Bihar until December 28th. According to weather experts, this situation arises when there is no sunshine during the day and the temperature remains significantly below normal. This can particularly affect children and the elderly.
Possibility of light clouds in the NCR
The Meteorological Department believes that intermittent rainfall during the winter season reduces pollution, but currently, there is no rain in the plains. However, an increase in wind speed may temporarily clear the fog in some areas. Light clouds are expected over the NCR and surrounding areas by the end of December. Clearly, little relief from the cold and fog is expected in the coming days.
