Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu and Maldives First Lady Sajida Mohammed arrived in New Delhi on Sunday on their first bilateral visit to India. During this, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Muizzu and praised the commitment of the Maldives President to enhance bilateral relations.
Jaishankar expressed his commitment to further strengthen the relations between India and Maldives during his meeting with Muizzu. He also expressed hope that his talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also further strengthen the friendly relations between the two countries.
Sharing his photo with Muizzu on X, Jaishankar said that he was very happy to welcome President Mohammed Muizzu on his official visit to India.
No decision of Maldives will be against India: Muizzu.
While talking to the newspaper Times of India, he also said that Maldives will never take such a decision that weakens India or spoils the relations between the two countries.
When he was asked that at present the relations between Maldives and China are very good, then India can trust that Maldives will never do anything that weakens India's security.
On this, President Muizzu said that India is our important partner. Both countries are also good friends and the relations between the two countries are related to important interests. Any decision of Maldives will not affect India's security. At the same time, our talks with any country will not weaken our relations with India.
Muizzu has come to India on a visit from 6-10 October.
President Muizzu will also hold meetings with President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other senior officials during this visit. Minister of State for External Affairs Kirtivardhan Singh welcomed him on his arrival in Delhi. Muizzu has adopted a conciliatory stance after the recent souring of relations with India. He thanked India for financial assistance and described New Delhi as Male's closest ally. His visit will strengthen the relations between the two countries.
