The increasing pollution in Mumbai has also become a matter of concern amidst the festival of Diwali. The air quality here has deteriorated a lot. In such a situation, BMC has set some rules for burning crackers on Diwali, for which guidelines have been issued. To deal with air pollution in Mumbai, everyone has also been requested to follow the guidelines of BMC.
According to the BMC guidelines, Mumbaikars cannot burst crackers after 10.00 pm. Apart from this, an appeal is also being made to burn fewer crackers. It has also been said that crackers should be burst in open areas, not in streets and crowded places.
Crackers should also be burst as little as possible so that air and noise pollution can be reduced to some extent. Children, pregnant women, the elderly, and asthmatics have to face a lot of problems due to air pollution caused by crackers. It is important to keep in mind the guidelines of BMC to keep health problems away.
Keeping pollution in mind, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation administration is appealing as follows-
1. Diwali is a festival of lights. Avoid noise and air pollution by giving priority to celebrating it with light.
2. Priority should be given to the use of noiseless crackers.
3. Such crackers should be burst which causes minimum air pollution.
4. Burst crackers only till 10.00 pm.
5. Understanding the responsibility towards senior citizens and heart patients, avoid burning loud crackers.
6. Safety should be given top priority.
7. While bursting crackers, cotton clothes should be worn, do not use loose (large) clothes.
8. Crackers should be burnt only in open places.
9. Crackers should not be burst in crowded places or streets.
10. It is necessary to have elders with children while bursting crackers. 11. While bursting crackers, keep a bucket filled with water, sand, etc. for safety.
12. While burning crackers, dry leaves, paper or any other material should not be burnt.
