India has decided to provide a $2 billion 'soft loan' for projects in Central Africa. India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, on Thursday underlined New Delhi's cordial and friendly bilateral relations with the regions of Central Africa.
During the UNSC briefing on UNOCA/LRA (UN Regional Office for UNOCA), Ambassador Kamboj said, "India enjoys cordial and friendly bilateral relations with the countries of Central Africa. We have increased our diplomatic presence in the region. Developments in the region Our assistance and coordination have been abiding. “We have extended USD 2 billion of ‘soft loans to countries in the region for projects related to agriculture, transport, power, and water supply,” he said.
India's top ambassador to the United Nations said the country's Duty-Free Tariff Preference (DFTP) scheme applies to several Central African countries as well. He assured that India will continue to actively engage with countries in Central Africa to advance peace, security, and development for their people.
In his address, Kaboj noted that political developments in the countries of the Central African region have been positive, marked by electoral processes, regular exchanges, and cooperation between the countries. The Indian envoy underlined that the socio-economic and humanitarian situation in the Central African region presents multidimensional challenges, which are affected by historical injustices and the struggle for development.
