After an initial investigation, a case was registered against Pa. Ranjith, stunt choreographer Rajkamal, Neelam Production, and another person, Prabhakaran, under section 194 of the Indian Justice Code. However, seeing the seriousness of the case, the police have now tightened it further. Now, a case has been registered against the accused under section 289 (negligent action), section 125 (incitement to crime), and section 106 (1) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).

The incident took place in the Kilaiyur area of Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu, where the shooting of a film organized by 'Neelam Productions' was going on. During the stunt sequence, Raju had to perform a scene of overturning a car, but while performing this dangerous stunt, he got seriously injured. He was immediately rushed to Nagapattinam Government Medical College Hospital, but doctors declared him dead.
