US News: Earlier this month, President Joe Biden said that the US economy is not heading towards recession, but in the second quarter (April to June), America's GDP declined at an annual rate of 0.9 percent. This decline for the second consecutive quarter is technically a recession.
The current figures have been released by the US Bureau of Economic Analysis. Real gross domestic product (GDP) in the US in the first quarter (January to March) of 2022 saw a decrease of 1.6 percent. If negative growth is observed for two consecutive quarters, it is technically defined as an economic slowdown.
However, the new GDP estimates released for the second quarter are based on incomplete source data. It will be revised and released by the source agency on August 25. The Bureau of Economic Analysis said – there has been a decrease in GDP, private inventory investment, housing investment, and federal-provincial and local government spending. Accordingly, Biden's claim has been proved wrong.
