US President Joe Biden on Tuesday announced the appointment of two Indian-origin trade experts to the President's Export Council. It has been informed by the White House that the names of two Indian Americans Puneet Ranjan and Rajesh Subramaniam are included in this list. Both of them will be members of the Export Council.
Name of 25 people included in the list
The appointment of these two is of great importance because the Export Council is the most important body to look into matters of international trade, in such a situation, having two Indian-American members in it can give very good results. In addition, Mark D. Ein has been named Chairman of the Council, and Rosalind Brewer as Vice Chair. A total of 25 people including two Indian Americans are included in this list.
Who is Puneet Ranjan?
Puneet Ranjan is an Indian-American businessman who retired last year as the CEO of Deloitte Global. Puneet Ranjan has been serving as the CEO of Deloitte Global since June 2015. He is currently serving as the Emeritus CEO of Deloitte.
According to a White House press release, under Puneet's leadership, Deloitte launched WorldClass to instill the belief that when societies thrive, businesses thrive. Ranjan has been recognized by numerous organizations for his leadership, business acumen, and commitment to social impact.
Awarded "Global Indian of the Year"
In 2022, Ranjan was recognized as the 'Global Indian of the Year' by the Economic Times. In 2021, the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum honored Ranjan with the 'Global Achievement Award'. In 2020, he was awarded the 'Oregon History Makers' Medal. He is one of the 34 great expatriates in the Carnegie Corporation of America.
Rajesh Subramaniam is the CEO of FedEx.
Biden's list also includes the name of Rajesh Subramaniam, another Indian-American. Subramaniam is the CEO and member of the board of directors of FedEx Corporation. As CEO of FedEx Corporation, Subramaniam provides a strategic direction to all FedEx operating companies.
Subramaniam received the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award in 2023. The award is the highest civilian award given by the President of India to Indian expatriates in recognition of outstanding achievements in India and abroad.
What is President's Export Council?
The President's Export Council serves as the principal national advisory body for international trade. The Council advises the President on government policies and programs that affect US business performance. It promotes exports and provides a forum to discuss and resolve trade-related problems between the trade, industrial, agriculture, labor, and government sectors.
