Jamiat-Ulema-e-Hind president Maulana Arshad Madani on Sunday criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks in which he said that 'Waqf law has no place in the Constitution'.
Maulana Madani addressed the 'Save Constitution and National Unity' conference organized by the organization in Patna. During this, he appealed to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to stop the Waqf Amendment Bill from being passed. The Modi government may introduce this amendment bill during the next session of Parliament.
Jamiat will oppose if the Waqf Bill is introduced in Parliament.
Maulana Madani expressed surprise at Prime Minister Modi's statement and said that tomorrow he can also say that Namaz, Roza, Haj, and Zakat are not mentioned anywhere in the Constitution, so these should be banned. Madani said that if he did not know about the Constitution, he could have taken information from experts. He also said that if the bill is introduced in Parliament, Jamiat will oppose it along with Hindus, other minorities, and all secular-minded people. Maulana Madani said that Muslims can tolerate any harm but 'cannot tolerate any interference in Shariat'.
Waqf is our religious matter, it is our duty to protect it.
The Muslim leader said, "The Prime Minister should know that Waqf is an integral part of Islam and it is mentioned in Hadith, which are the words spoken by our Prophet." He said that religious freedom has been given to all the minorities of the country in the Constitution and this (Waqf) is an important part of this religious freedom. Maulana said that this is our religious matter, so it is our religious duty to protect it and keep it alive.
Maulana Madani urged Nitish and Naidu, allies of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), not to support the Waqf Bill. He said that doing so would be like 'stabbing Muslims in the back.' He further said that this double politics cannot work anymore that you get our vote and after coming to power you use this vote against us.
Madani criticized Assam CM's statement.
Maulana Madani also criticized BJP's 'politics of hate' and the statement of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, who termed Muslims in Jharkhand as infiltrators. He said that BJP had to face defeat in Jharkhand and this is proof that along with Muslims, many Hindus are also standing with us. Assam CM was the BJP in charge of Jharkhand assembly elections.
Nitish Kumar should clarify his stand on secularism.
Indirectly referring to JDU chief Nitish Kumar, Madani said, 'The ruling system of the state is the crutch on which the Center stands. The powers present in the state claim that they will not let Muslims be harassed. If they call themselves secular then they should clarify their stand on this. If they deviate, then the Muslim community will have to decide whether to trust them further or not.'
