KIIT Suicide: Scholarship in memory of student; Now 24-hour help to students; Nepali Foreign Minister talks to minister

After the alleged suicide of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal at Odisha's Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), the Higher Education Department has set up a 24x7 helpdesk to ensure the safety and return of students and protect their academic interests. Apart from this, KIIT announced a scholarship in memory of the student. On the other hand, Nepal's Foreign Minister Arju Rana Deuba requested Odisha's Education Minister Suryavanshi Suraj to conduct a fair inquiry into the student's death. Also said that legal action should be taken against the culprit.

 

Let us tell you that the body of Lamsal, a 20-year-old B.Tech third-year student at KIIT, was found hanging from the ceiling of the hostel room on February 16. After this, the students protested. On this, about 1,000 Nepali students studying at KIIT were issued a suspension notice and asked to leave the campus immediately.

KISS founder announces scholarship

 

After the alleged suicide of the student, on Wednesday, the KIIT institute issued a statement, announcing a scholarship in the memory of the student. According to the statement of the institute, this announcement was made by Achyuta Samanta, founder of KIIT and Kalinga Institute of Social Science (KISS). Samanta also met the father and uncle of the deceased student and expressed his deep condolences. Samanta said, 'A scholarship will be started in his name as a tribute to the memory of Lamasal.'

 

The Nepali Foreign Minister spoke to the Odisha Education Minister.

 

Apart from this, a statement was issued from the secretariat of Nepali Foreign Minister Deuba on Wednesday. According to the statement, Deuba spoke to Odisha Education Minister Suryavanshi over the phone. Deuba asked Suryavanshi to ensure that classes are resumed in a safe environment for other Nepali students in the university.

 

A high-level inquiry committee was formed to get justice for the student.

 

During the conversation with Deuba, Minister Suryavanshi said that the Odisha government has taken the matter seriously. A high-level inquiry committee has been formed to get justice to Lamasal and punish the guilty. Suryavanshi also assured that arrangements have been made for the safety of Nepali students in the hostel and to resume their studies.

 

The body of a Nepali girl was sent home from Odisha, students appealed to return to campus.

The body of B.Tech third-year Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal, who was found dead in the hostel of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha's capital Bhubaneswar on Sunday evening, 16 February, was sent to her village on Wednesday. In this case, Nepal's Ambassador to India Shankar Sharma said, we are highly satisfied with the prompt action taken by the Government of India and the Government of Odisha in this matter.

 

At the same time, the state's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday urged the Nepali students of KIIT to return to the campus and resume studies and assured them that peace and normalcy will be restored soon. Despite this, there is fear among the Nepali students about returning to the KIIT campus. Nepali students say that they are afraid to return.

 

Bail to institute directors and employees

Five KIIT employees, including three institute directors, who were arrested on charges of harassing Nepali students, were granted bail by the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class-2.
