Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He said that if there was no anti-land acquisition movement in Nandigram, the Trinamool Congress supremo would never have become the Chief Minister.
Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, spoke to reporters on Wednesday. During this, he also accused Mamata Banerjee of 'driving Tata from Singur in Hooghly district' and making Bengal a 'graveyard of industries'.
Adhikari commented on the Chief Minister's allegation.
Adhikari also commented on the Chief Minister's allegation that the BJP brought 'fake Hinduism' to the state and the treatment being given to minorities. He said that his real 'anti-Hindu and minority appeasement' and 'opportunistic character' had been exposed in front of the saffron party MLAs in the House.
Adhikari called CM Mamata anti-Hindu
Suvendu Adhikari, referring to Banerjee in the assembly chamber, said, 'You are anti-Hindu, you want to make West Bengal Bangladesh. Your opportunistic character has been exposed in front of our MLAs, who are representing the people of Bengal and expressing their apprehensions.'
Mamata accuses Adhikari of bringing fake Hinduism
Earlier, CM Banerjee hit out at Adhikari over his controversial remarks on Muslim MLAs and accused the BJP of bringing 'fake Hinduism' to the state. Banerjee also took a dig at Suvendu Adhikari's political ambitions. The CM said that he left one party for his gain and joined another (BJP), where he wants to gain more power.
CM should stop lecturing on political principles.
To this, Nandigram MLA Adhikari said, 'It would be better if she (Mamata Banerjee) stops lecturing on political principles. Politics is her profession, while I and my family are descendants of freedom fighters. My father and the elders of our family have had a long career in public life. What have they done?'
Accused CM Mamata of betrayal
Adhikari accused Banerjee of betraying Rajiv Gandhi when she was in the Congress and Atal Bihari Vajpayee when she was in the NDA government, 'even though she got help from him during a crucial phase of her career.'
Challenges CM Mamata to contest from Bhawanipur
During this, Suvendu Adhikari challenged CM Mamata Banerjee to contest from Bhawanipur in the 2026 assembly elections. Adhikari said that the TMC supremo will face a crushing defeat in Bhawanipur.
Sovandev Chatterjee hits back at Adhikari
Meanwhile, Parliamentary Minister and senior TMC leader Sovandev Chatterjee hit back at Suvendu Adhikari. Chatterjee said, 'Adhikari is violating the spirit of the oath taken as an MLA, in which he promised to protect the Constitution.'
