External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday chaired an all-party meeting in Parliament and briefed the leaders about the ongoing developments in Bangladesh.
Jaishankar briefed the leaders about the discussions held on the issue in Bangladesh and the current situation in the country.
Sources in the all-party meeting told ANI that he also informed how Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has come to India and how India will take care of the Bangladeshi leader.
Jaishankar said that Sheikh Hasina is in India and the Indian government wants to give her time so that she can tell the Indian government what her future will be.
Indian government in touch with Bangladeshi army - Jaishankar
During the meeting, Jaishankar told the leaders that the central government is also in touch with the Bangladeshi army. According to sources, he said that this is the current situation and the government will take appropriate action at the right time.
8,000 Indian citizens have come to India - Jaishankar
According to sources, the leaders were told in the party meeting that there are 20,000 Indian citizens in the country. According to sources, 8,000 Indian citizens have returned so far. Jaishankar told in the meeting that the Government of India is in touch with the Indian citizens and the High Commission there is working continuously.
Sources in the all-party meeting told ANI that the leaders were told that the focus should be on minorities and they should be protected.
