Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has given a very clear answer to US President Donald Trump and some analysts of Western countries, who are trying to make India focus on economic cooperation by keeping aside its security concerns with Pakistan and China, that national security is paramount for India.
He has said that, the first duty of any government is to protect the geographical border of its country.
Western countries also got a piece of the story.
Foreign Minister Jaishankar has also told Western countries that they cannot understand India's security concerns because after the disintegration of the Soviet Union, these countries were living in a very safe environment, although now (after the Ukraine-Russia war) they too have to deal with questions related to security.
Pakistan promotes fundamentalists: Jaishankar.
In a video interview given to the Netherlands' NOS channel, Foreign Minister Jaishankar was asked if President Trump is trying to indicate that if India removes its tension with China and Pakistan and promotes economic relations with them, then you can become rich together.
Jaishankar's answer was, "This is a very interesting question. Western countries are just now realizing what happens if their security needs are not paid attention to for a long time. Our security challenges are much more serious than those of Western countries. The region we live in is more difficult and the situation there is such that Western countries have stayed away from it for many decades. India does not have a question of selecting between security and economic progress. For any government or the people of the country, protecting the country is always a priority. India has very difficult neighbors, China and Pakistan. Pakistan constantly supports terrorism. Pakistan promotes very fanaticism, this has been their history which they use to put pressure on us."
India is not ignoring economic development.
This is Foreign Minister Jaishankar's first interview with the media after Operation Sindoor. But along with this, Foreign Minister Jaishankar also made it clear that India is not ignoring its economic development.
Jaishankar further said, "Economic progress depends on the fundamentals of any country. Here India is in the right position. We are in a position to achieve a consistent economic growth rate of 6-8 percent. The condition of India's population is very good. We are going to become a four trillion-dollar economy. The condition of our infrastructure sector is very good. The condition of manufacturing is getting very strong. India has a strong economy. We can attract many economic partners." Talks will be held on PoK
Meanwhile, in response to another question related to Pakistan, Jaishankar said, "Our relations with Pakistan have been tense for a long time. Immediately after independence, Pakistan sent its army to India and initially said that these were not their men, but later it turned out that they were Pakistani army men.
Jaishankar said that we want to end terrorism by seriously talking to Pakistan. As far as Kashmir is concerned, it is a part of India. No country talks to another country about its part. But a part of Kashmir is with Pakistan unofficially.
We can talk to Pakistan on this." On this, the journalist asked whether President Trump could play an important role in this, to which Jaishankar interrupted him and said, "This issue is also between India and Pakistan."
