The South African cricket team is currently on a tour of India. The two teams are playing a one-day series. After losing the Test series, India opened the ODI series with a win on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called a meeting with head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and several other officials ahead of the second ODI against South Africa on Wednesday.

This meeting comes amid ongoing debate about the future of Team India's star players, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Both have returned to form with impressive performances in the last few matches.

These people will be involved.

According to a report in Sportstar, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia, Joint Secretary Prabhtej Singh Bhatia, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar are likely to participate in the discussion. The report did not confirm whether newly appointed BCCI President Mithun Manhas will be present. Considering this meeting will be held on match day, it seems unlikely that Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and other senior players will be invited.

These issues will be discussed.

The report quoted a senior BCCI official as saying that this meeting was held to ensure "selection continuity" in the team, while also taking into account long-term development and the team's overall performance.

The purpose of this meeting is to address the shortcomings identified in the Indian team during the recent home Test series defeat against South Africa. With both Gambhir and Agarkar present at the meeting, the board wants to gain clarity on certain aspects of management and plan for the future accordingly.

The official said, "There have been many confusing tactics both on and off the field during the home Test season. We want clarity and a forward-looking plan, especially with the next Test series eight months away." The official further said, "India will be a strong contender to win the T20 World Cup next year and the ODI World Cup after that, so we want these issues resolved quickly."

Virat refuses

This situation points to a possible communication gap between the management and senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. There were rumors that the BCCI wanted Kohli to refuse to retire from Test cricket, but the legendary batsman put an end to the possibility of such a U-turn after the Ranchi ODI on Sunday.
