Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and Brijbhushan Sharan Singh are once again in the news. The results of the elections for the post of WFI President came on Thursday. Sanjay Singh, considered close to former Indian Wrestling Association President Brij Bhushan, captured the post of President by defeating Anita Sheoran. After this, on Thursday, Olympic medalist wrestler Sakshi Malik announced her retirement from wrestling. She cried while announcing this. Apart from this, Vinesh Phogat also could not hide her tears at the press conference on Thursday. Wrestlers are going to unite once again against the new WFI President Sanjay Singh and Brij Bhushan and have indicated this in a press conference on Thursday.
What did Vinesh Phogat say?
After becoming the new WFI President, and Commonwealth, and Asian Games gold medalist Vinesh said that now that Sanjay has been elected President of the Wrestling Federation of India, the harassment against women wrestlers will continue. Vinesh's eyes filled with tears as soon as she said this. She was crying while giving her statement. This veteran wrestler said that he does not know where to find justice in this country. Vinesh said- There is some hope that we will get justice. The future of Indian wrestling is in darkness and it is sad to see. To whom will we tell our sorrow? We are still fighting all these issues.
Sakshi Malik had announced her retirement
Earlier, wrestler Sakshi Malik said in a press conference in Delhi, "We slept on the streets for 40 days and a lot of people from many parts of the country came to support us. If Brij Bhushan, Sharan Singh's business partner and close aide, was given the name of a wrestling association. If the President is elected, I will give up wrestling. Thanks to all the people who supported us. The fight was fought with all my heart. If the President remains a man like Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, then I will give up my wrestling.'
Sakshi went out of the hall crying
After this Sakshi went away crying with her husband Satyavrat Kadian. During this, Bajrang also said that he was in danger of his life. He also said that this fight was not political. He assures that in the coming times, he will not be seen standing with any political party. Sakshi had said that he wanted a woman president, but that did not happen. At the same time, after winning the elections, Sanjay met Brij Bhushan at his house and called him elder brother. Sanjay had said- Our relationship is like elder and younger brother. We have known each other since our families used to organize wrestling in Kashi and Ayodhya.
Sanjay said- This is not my victory, but the victory of the wrestlers of the entire country. After the formation of the new association, those wrestling events that were closed for the last 11 months will start. Sanjay's election victory is being considered a big blow for Bajrang Punia, Vinesh and Sakshi. This whole controversy started in January this year and then some big wrestlers including Sakshi, Vinesh, and Bajrang Punia were sitting on a dharna at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. In June, the wrestlers ended their strike and all the wrestlers returned to work. Meanwhile, the World Wrestling Federation had suspended the WFI for not conducting the elections on time. Elections were held on 21 December and Sanjay won.
Sanjay Singh defeated Anita
Sanjay Singh defeated Commonwealth Games gold medalist Anita Sheoran to become the president. Efforts for unanimous elections continued till Wednesday, but were not successful. Sanjay Singh had claimed that his camp would win every post in the elections and he proved it to be true by winning. Out of the 15 posts at stake in the wrestling association elections, candidates supported by Brij Bhushan won 13. Vice President of Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Association, Sanjay Singh of Varanasi got 40 votes, while Commonwealth Games winner wrestler Anita Sheoran, standing in front of him, got seven votes.
Politics has started again on this matter. Congress leader Vijender Singh said- The sports world is deeply saddened and troubled by the retirement of wrestler Sakshi Malik. We will go to every player, every stadium, and every arena and talk to them about women's safety and, the employment of athletes. We stood shoulder to shoulder with them yesterday, are standing today, and will stand tomorrow too.
