150 years of Vande Mataram: PM Modi launches commemoration; also releases commemorative stamp and coin

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched a year-long commemoration to mark the 150th anniversary of the national song "Vande Mataram." Prime Minister Modi attended the event held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the national song "Vande Mataram."

 

 

Commemorative stamps and coins were also released

The Prime Minister also released a commemorative stamp and coin on this occasion. This event formally launches a year-long nationwide commemoration, running from November 7, 2025, to November 7, 2026. The objective of this nationwide commemoration is to convey the significance of Vande Mataram, the song that inspired India's freedom struggle, to the new generation.

 

 

Commemoration to continue until November 7, 2026

The event will run from November 7, 2025, to November 7, 2026. Various cultural, educational, and public participation events will be held across the country. During the main ceremony, people across the country will sing the full version of Vande Mataram en masse at around 9:50 a.m. On this occasion, Prime Minister Modi said that Vande Mataram is not just a song; it is an expression of the soul of Mother India.

 

 

The song was written on Akshaya Navami in 1875.

The year 2025 marks the 150th anniversary of the composition of Vande Mataram. This song was written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee on Akshaya Navami, November 7, 1875. It was later published in the literary magazine Bangadarshan as an excerpt from his famous novel Anandamath.
