Auction of spectrum for the launch of 5G services is going on in the country. On Tuesday (July 26), the Telecom Ministry started the auction of the 5G spectrum. The auction process is expected to continue on Wednesday as well. On the first day of the spectrum auction, it has been told by the government that during the 5G spectrum auction, companies made more bids than expected.
It has been told by the government that in the four rounds of bidding held on the first day of the auction, the government has received bids for spectrum worth more than Rs 1.45 lakh crore.
After the first day's spectrum auction, Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that in the first auction being held in India, the bids made by companies on the very first day touched the 1.45 lakh mark. The auction process for the 5G spectrum that began at 10 am on 26 July 2022 saw four rounds of bidding go through till 6 pm on the first day. During this, the minister also said that if the demand for more spectrum remains among the bidders, then the auction will continue on Wednesday as well.
The government wants to complete the process of the 5G spectrum auction by August 15
Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has said that bids have been received for 700 Mhz band frequency on the first day of the 5G spectrum auction. Vaishnav has said that the ministry wants to complete the auction process before August 15 this year, so that 5G services can be started in the country from September to October this year.
Apart from the three major mobile service providers, Adani Data Networks of the Adani Group is also participating in the auction process. Apart from Adani Group, Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea will also bid for spectrum. A total of 72 GHz airwaves will be auctioned in this auction.
5G spectrum is being auctioned for 20 years
The spectrum of 72,097.85 MHz will be auctioned for 20 years. The spectrum frequencies for which the auction is taking place include the bands of 600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, and 3300 MHz, and 26 GHz. According to reports, most telecom service providers will bid for spectrum in the mid-and high-bands to bring services with speeds and capacity that are about 10 times higher than 4G in the country.
