5G Promises 100 Mbps Speed: Even if you get half, 4 times than 4G… but 700% less than South Korea's 432 Mbps

Just as Reliance's entry in the 4G market had revolutionized the internet in India, Adani Group's entry in the 5G auction has again raised the expectations of the common man and the market turmoil. 5G is coming soon in India…But what will be its speed in India? The promise is of a peak download speed of 2 GB per second and the average download speed is also being claimed to be over 100 MB per second. Even if the average speed is halved, it will be nearly four times the current average of 13.1 Mbps. On the other hand, the highest average download speed in 5G running countries is currently 432 Mbps. That is, we will still be far behind in the world in internet speed. Come, let's see what is our current internet speed and where will we stand against the world with the introduction of 5G.

Speed has always been less than promised

The peak download speed at the time of 3G's launch was claimed to be 14 Mbps. But this user never got it. When 4G was launched, it was claimed that the peak download speed would be 100 Mbps. This speed was not available to the user, but the average download speed reached 13-14 Mbps. This was the peak download speed in the 3G era. Now the peak download speed of 5G is said to be 2 Gbps.

5G running in 72 countries… The peak speed of the claim is nowhere

Currently, the 5G network is being used in 72 countries. The network's peak speed of 2 Gbps is yet to be found in any country. Telecom research platform OpenSignal has released the list of top-15 countries in terms of internet quality in June in the countries using 5G. Also, OpenSignal has released its July report on the current status of 4G in the country.

432 Mbps is the average download speed of 5G in South Korea… that is, download a movie of 2 GB in 5 seconds

The average download speed of 5G in the world is currently the highest in South Korea. There is an average download speed of 432.7 Mbps, i.e. a movie of 2 GB can be downloaded in just 5 seconds. Finland is at the bottom of the top 15 countries on this parameter. Here too the average download speed is 237.1 Mbps.

The fastest 4G download speed in India is 15.2 Mbps in Andhra Pradesh…2800% less than the 5G speed in South Korea

4G network is running in India right now. According to a July report by OpenSignal, the average 4G download speed in the country is just 13.1 Mbps. The fastest average download speed is 15.2 Mbps in Andhra Pradesh. This is about 2800% less than South Korea's 5G speed of 432.7 Mbps.

5G connectivity in the world right now, the best situation in Puerto Rico… here too 5G connects only 42% of the time

5G network has started in 72 countries, but there is still a problem with its connectivity. 5G network is not available continuously due to spectrum and tower network issues. The best situation is in Puerto Rico, South America, but even here, the 5G network is available only 42.7% of the time. South Korea, with the fastest average speeds, only gets 5G networks 31% of the time.

Better 4G connectivity in India… On average 97.7% of the time phones get a 4G network

4G was launched in India in 2012. At that time the connectivity of 4G was very poor. In 2016, Reliance launched Jio which ran only on a 4G network. Since then other telecom companies have also increased their focus on the 4G network. Due to this, on average 97.7% of the time every phone in the country is connected to a 4G network only. 4G connectivity is best in Assam where the phone is connected to a 4G network 98.4% of the time.

5G Peak Speed 922.5 Mbps in Taiwan, Download a Movie in 2 Seconds

The peak speed of 5G is being claimed to be 2 Gbps. But this peak speed has been found only in the test condition. According to a June report by OpenSignal, Taiwan has the highest peak speed of 922.5 Mbps. South Korea, known for its fast internet, has a peak speed of 860.1 Mbps.

Right now companies focus on download speed…upload speed has to be increased to run the Internet of Things

Malaysia currently has the highest average upload speed on 5G networks in the world at 50.3 Mbps. The highest average download speed of 5G is more than 8 times this. At present, the focus of companies is on download speed, because the Internet is mainly used for downloading information. But to run the network of smart appliances, that is, to advance the Internet of Things, it will be necessary to increase the upload speed as well. India is still far behind in this matter. The average upload speed of 4G in India is just 4.4 Mbps.

5G will come…but 2G will not.

Do you know that India is not '2G free' yet? According to the Ericsson Mobility report, even in 2022, about 20% of mobile users in India are on 2G. The special thing is that their number is more than the users connected to 3G and the even more shocking thing is that by the end of 2022, the 3G network will end in the country. But the 2G network will remain intact. Millions of customers of the country's two biggest companies Airtel and Vodafone-Idea still use feature phones that run on 2G networks. Both the companies are aware that if they end the 2G network then these users will be forced to switch to 4G and due to the lower cost of 4G devices and connections, Reliance Jio will be benefitted which provides only 4G services. According to the Ericsson Mobility report, by 2025, around 5% of users in India will be on a 2G network.
