According to the report of News18, marriage is a contract in Islam. Under this, the amount of Mehr is fixed. A paper is duly made regarding this and both the parties sign on that paper. In the event of a breakdown of marriage or divorce, this amount of Mehr is given to the woman. In such a situation, after the divorce from AR Rahman, Saira will only get the amount of Mehr. However, recently the Supreme Court made an important decision. In an important decision of July 10, 2024, the Supreme Court said that a Muslim woman is entitled to get alimony from her husband.
The report further said that on the basis of Section 125 of the CrPC, the apex court said that a magistrate has the right to fix alimony for wives, children, and even parents. Questions were also raised on this decision of the Supreme Court. Critics said that this decision is an interference in Muslim Personal Law. If this decision is considered as the basis, then Saira is entitled to get alimony from AR Rahman.
Now the question is how much alimony she will get, this will be decided by the magistrate. The judicial magistrate decides the alimony considering the financial condition of the husband. AR Rahman has assets worth thousands of crores. In such a situation, Saira can get a good amount.
