New Delhi, Feb 6 (IANS) Naresh Balyan, the AAP candidate for Saturday's Delhi assembly polls, has been served another notice to join the probe in connection with the recovery of a large haul of liquor, police said Friday.
Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi said many summons had already been issued to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from the Uttam Nagar constituency.
"We have issued another notice to him to join the probe," he said.
Bassi said that if necessary, "we will lodge a case against Balyan and he can be arrested".
"Our Crime Branch team started investigating the case after around 400 liquor cartons were found from a house belonging to Balyan," the commissioner said.
Asked if the Delhi Police was working under pressure to take action against AAP leader, Bassi said: "We investigate impartially. There is no pressure on us and we also do not work under pressure."
On Jan 31, a team of Delhi Police's Crime Branch seized 497 cartons containing 8,352 bottles of liquor from a house in Uttam Nagar's Om Vihar area. The bottles were labelled "for sale in Haryana".
Police then registered a case against unknown persons and started investigation.
Police said the liquor was brought to Delhi from Haryana's Bahadurgarh, and they had also informed the Election Commission about the incident.
