He was also called a political disciple of Khanduri, but despite this Tirath did not remain in any faction of the party. Tirath is also considered close to BJP's national media in-charge Anil Baluni. First Education Minister of Uttarakhand

 

In the year 2000, he was elected the first Minister of Education of the newly formed Uttarakhand. After this, in 2007, Bharatiya Janata Party was elected the state general secretary of Uttarakhand. He was the state election officer and state membership chief. Was the President of the 2013 Uttarakhand Divine Disaster Management Advisory Committee, was elected MLA from the Chaubatakhal Legislative Assembly in the year 2012, and became the Uttarakhand BJP State President in the year 2013. Tirath Singh Rawat was nominated from the Pauri seat as BJP candidate for the 17th Lok Sabha election in India, in which he won by a huge vote. He defeated his nearest rival Manish Khanduri of Congress by over 2,85,003 votes.
