New Delhi, Jan 23 (IANS) An indigenous radar system with capability of 3-dimensional tracking will be unveiled at Rajpath this Republic Day along with the much highlighted Brahmos missile and tanks that are the Indian Army's pride.
The 3DTCR -- three-dimensional tactical control radar -- made by the state-owned Bharat Electronic Limited (BEL) can track flying objects up to a range of 90 kms, and provides a three-dimensional image giving the exact location of the object.
Usual radars give a two-dimensional image of location, and the exact position has to be worked out.
The other new entrants to the parade include indigenous SOTM (satellite on the move) and Canadian RADSAT (Rapidly Deployable Satellite Terminal).
The SOTM is an indigenous communication device that can, through a gyro stabilised antenna, track satellite signals while moving.
The highlight, however, remains the short range supersonic missile Brahmos, that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft and land.
The army will also display T-90 tanks (Bhishma), T-72 Trolls, and BMP 2 (Sarath) infantry combat vehicles.
This is along with 13 marching contingents of the Army, which include an all-women contingent making its debut on Rajpath.
