Many people have died due to heavy rains in Mizoram, Manipur, and Assam. While 10 people lost their lives in West Bengal due to this terrible storm, at least 10 people died after getting buried under debris in Aizawl, Mizoram due to a landslide in a stone mine. Apart from this, a 17-year-old boy died and several others were injured due to heavy rains and strong winds in Assam on Tuesday.
Bangladesh: 10 killed, more than 150,000 houses damaged due to Cyclone Remal
10 people died due to the arrival of cyclonic storm Remal in the coastal area of Bangladesh on Sunday night. Additionally, 150,457 houses were damaged during the storm. A total of 9424 shelters have been opened in the coastal districts of Bangladesh and more than 800,000 people have taken shelter there.
Apart from this, 52,146 pet animals have also been kept there. There was no major loss due to the steps taken by the Ministry by the instructions issued by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Meanwhile, a total of 1,471 medical teams have been formed to provide treatment to people in the cyclone-affected areas.
10 killed in a mine collapse in Mizoram
Ten people were killed and several others missing after a stone quarry collapsed in Mizoram's Aizawl district on Tuesday morning amid incessant rains due to the impact of Cyclone Remal. The incident occurred around 6 am in the area between Melthum and Hilimen on the southern outskirts of Aizawl city.
Director General of Police (DGP) Anil Shukla said that ten bodies have been recovered so far, while many others are still trapped under the debris. All efforts are underway to save the people trapped under the debris. However, the operation is being affected due to heavy rains. Another police officer said that among the dead, seven were locals, while three were from outside the state.
Rain in Assam, a tree fell and teenager lost his life
A 17-year-old boy died and several others were injured as Cyclone Remal lashed Assam with heavy rains and strong winds on Tuesday. Kaushik Bordoloi Amphi, a college student, died when a tree fell on an auto-rickshaw in Dighalbori in Morigaon district. Four other people were traveling in the auto-rickshaw and all of them were injured. A tree fell on a school bus at Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district and 12 children were injured. He was admitted to the local hospital. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the bad weather is expected to continue.
Normal life affected due to continuous rain in Manipur
Due to continuous heavy rains, many areas of Manipur were flooded on Tuesday, affecting normal life. Traffic was affected due to waterlogging due to the blockage of drains at Andro Parking, Chekon, Mahabali, and Wangkhei in the Imphal East district. However, officials said there were no reports of any deaths or injuries in the heavy rains.
