After scoring a century in the third ODI against England, wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant is being praised everywhere. Former Indian cricketer Arun Lal has even told Pant the future captain of India. Arun Lal, who recently became a bridegroom for the second time, said that after Rohit Sharma, Pant can become the next captain of India. Pant captained the Indian team in the home T20 series against South Africa. Lal believes that Pant can handle the pressure and he is not afraid to play his natural game. He said that players with such qualities if appointed as India's captain in the future, will help the team to move forward.
Arun Lal said in a conversation with Jagran TV, 'Yes, absolutely (when asked if Rishabh Pant is the future captain after Rohit Sharma). I always feel that the captain should take his place in the top 3 in the team. He (Pant) is someone who is not afraid to play. His game can handle pressure well, can pull the team out of tough situations and such a player can be a great leader. It will be good for Indian cricket if we have an aggressive player like Pant as the captain of the team.
Pant has got captaincy experience very early in his career. He was appointed captain of Delhi's Ranji Trophy team before making his international debut for India. Presently he is the captain of the Delhi Capitals in IPL. He scored his maiden ODI century in the series decider against England in Manchester on Sunday.
The former cricketer said, 'If Pant can play consistently, he will be a hero for the Indian team. However, it is not necessary that if you play well in white ball cricket, you will perform the same way in red ball cricket. But I have seen Rishabh Pant transform himself in Test and limited overs formats.
