Senior Punjab Congress leader and MP Pratap Singh Bajwa has openly supported Navjot Singh Sidhu and advocated giving him a big post. He has also said that senior leaders of Punjab did not want him to come to the party, but it was possible after insisting on his part. Bajwa has also said that he is not in the race for any post.
Bajwa said, "When Navjot Singh Sidhu was joining the Congress, the Punjab leadership was creating obstacles. They wanted him not to come. I intervened and said that he would be an asset to the party. He joined. He is like my brother." Seeking to give Siddha a bigger position in the party, Bajwa said, "The high command, workers and I want him to get an important role, but it takes time to reach the top position. This has been made clear in front of a three-member committee. They should be given the role, but the party loyalists, who are from 40-45 years, should also be taken into confidence.
The Congress MP said, "No colonel can become a general overnight. Even the most capable colonel has to wait for some time. We have left it to the party high command, we will accept their decision. I have also made it clear that I am not a candidate for any post.
