There is a lot of anger in India over the atrocities being committed against Hindus in Bangladesh. After the arrest of Chinmay Krishnadas associated with ISKCON, it has come to light that Hindus have been continuously targeted there since the departure of Sheikh Hasina's government. Meanwhile, Shafikul Islam, press secretary of Bangladesh Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, has given a big statement. He said that Hindus are "safe" in Bangladesh and there is no threat to minorities in the country.
His statement has come amid the ongoing controversy in Bangladesh over the arrest of Chinmay Krishna Das. Shafikul Islam also reacted to the issue of banning ISKCON in an interview. He said that the Bangladeshi government has no intention of banning the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). He stressed that I do not know about the hearing of the case, but ISKCON will not be banned in Bangladesh.
Muhammad Yunus's press secretary also spoke on the violence that erupted after Chinmay Das' arrest.
Regarding the recent violence that erupted between minority communities in Bangladesh, Islam said that a propaganda campaign is being run against Bangladesh. Hindus are safe here. Appealing to media institutions, Shafiqul Islam said I request you to come and cover the reality here. Violence was seen in Bangladesh in the initial few days and the situation is now under control. He also talked about a fair hearing in Chinmay Das's case.
The bank accounts of 17 people associated with ISKCON frozen
Earlier, Bangladesh's financial authorities, following an order, put a freeze on the bank accounts of seventeen people associated with ISKCON for a month. These people have been asked to submit their transaction details to the respective banks within three working days.
India is continuously expressing protest.
India is continuously raising the issue strongly before the Bangladesh government that Hindus and other minorities there are facing threats and targeted attacks. On Friday, the Ministry of External Affairs said that the interim government of Bangladesh should take responsibility for the safety of all its minorities. The ministry said we express concern over the increasing use of radical language, increasing incidents of violence, and cases of provocation in Bangladesh. These incidents cannot be considered just because the media is exaggerating them. The ministry again appealed to the Bangladesh government to take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of minorities.
What did the ministry say about the arrest of Chinmay Krishna Das?
On the arrest of prominent Hindu face Chinmay Krishna Das in Bangladesh, the ministry said, as far as cases against individuals are concerned, we know that legal processes are going on. We hope that these processes will deal with the matter in a just, fair, and transparent manner and ensure full respect for the legal rights of all the accused. Chinmay Krishna Das, spokesperson of Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatani Jagran Jot Sangathan, was arrested from Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday and charged with treason. On Tuesday, a Chittagong court refused to grant him bail and sent him to jail. A lawyer was killed in a clash between Das supporters and security personnel. Chinmoy has previously been a spokesperson for the International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Bangladesh.
