Former cricketer Roger Binny can be the next President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India i.e. BCCI. If this happens, Binny will replace former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly. Politics also started when the current BCCI President Sourav Ganguly was not given a second term. West Bengal's ruling party Trinamool Congress (TMC) and BJP are faces to face.
What is the TMC's allegation against the BJP for not giving Ganguly a second term?
TMC blamed BJP for not giving second chance to Sourav and termed it as a step of political vendetta. On behalf of Mamata Banerjee's party, it was said that during the last assembly elections, Sourav had refused to join the BJP. For this reason, BJP did not allow him to become BCCI President again.
TMC MP Shantanu Sen tweeted, 'Another example of political vendetta. Amit Shah's son can be made BCCI secretary again, but not Sourav Ganguly. Is it all because he hails from Mamata Banerjee's state or did he not join the BJP? Dada, we are with you.
TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh raised the question and said that if Jay Shah can get a second term then why can't Sourav Ganguly? All this has been done out of political vendetta. TMC says that it seems that an attempt is being made to humiliate Sourav Ganguly.
What does the BJP have to say about these allegations?
The BJP has described the change in BCCI as an internal matter. West Bengal BJP spokesperson Shamik Bhattacharya said, “We do not indulge in such debates. Because being involved in such a debate is also an insult to Sourav Ganguly. BJP has its ideology and it does not do this kind of politics.
At the same time, BJP MP Dilip Ghosh said, 'We do not know when BJP tried to include Sourav Ganguly in the party. Sourav Ganguly is a legendary cricketer. Some people are shedding crocodile tears in the name of the change happening in BCCI. When Sourav became the BCCI President, did he have any role in that? TMC should not politicize every issue.
Why is Ganguly not being given a second term?
Barring BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Joint Secretary Jayesh George, all the members of the current BCCI executive are going to get a second term. The displeasure of the board members is said to be the reason behind not giving Ganguly a second chance. According to media reports, the board members were angry with many of Ganguly's decisions.
Ganguly has been accused of endorsing brands that were rivals of BCCI's official sponsors. Former BCCI president and BCCI mentor N Srinivasan was against Khema Ganguly. Even during Ganguly's tenure, Srinivasan continued to vocally oppose Ganguly's decisions. It is being said that the displeasure of the Srinivasan camp proved to be the biggest obstacle in the second term of Ganguli.
What will be Sourav's next move after he departs from BCCI?
BCCI sources say that Sourav wanted a second term. He was expected to get a second term by the last day of nomination. But this did not happen. According to media reports, in the meeting, he was offered to be made the chairman of IPL. Sourav did not accept this demotion. He turned it down. It is being said that BCCI will not even support making him the chairman of ICC. What will be Sourav's different move, he has not been clear yet. There is much speculation about his next move. Some are talking about his return to the IPL franchise Delhi Capitals, while some are talking about returning to Kolkata.
