After the Hijab controversy in Karnataka, now the controversy regarding the Bible has continued. Recently, Hindu organizations protested over the alleged mandatory Bible for all students at the more than a century-old Clarence High School in Bengaluru. After this, the state government issued orders to investigate the matter. Now the statement of Arch Bishop of Bangalore has also come out on this matter.
What did the Arch Bishop say?
Bengaluru's Arch Bishop Peter McKeedo said the education department has ordered an inquiry into whether Bibles are used or religion is taught in their (Christian) schools. They are very sad about this. He said that we can bravely say that no student of any other religion has become a Christian in our school.
Non-Christian students are not required to read the Bible
Peter Macedo, the Arch Bishop of Bengaluru, further said that non-Christian students are not required to read the Bible in schools and there is no Bible instruction for them. The education minister has said that Srimad Bhagwat Geeta will be introduced in the state next year as a moral education text, while the Bible and Quran are considered religious texts, so they will not be allowed.
What is the whole matter?
In fact, in the past, an alleged case of making the Bible compulsory for students came to light at Clarence High School in Bangalore. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti had alleged that the high school had asked the parents of the students to sign a manifesto. This involves parents accepting that their child/student will have to attend a Bible class. The spokesperson of the committee, Mohan Gowda, had said that this rule is only to compel the student to follow some other religion. This rule openly violates the judgment of the Supreme Court and Article 25 of the Constitution. Along with this, it is also a violation of the Protection of Child Rights Act.
