NTA, an autonomous agency working under the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education, has decided to cancel the UGC-NET examination held on Tuesday. The decision to cancel the exam was taken after receiving indications of irregularities from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analysis Unit of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The controversy over the Medical Entrance Examination (NEET) result has not yet cooled down and the Ministry of Education has announced the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam as well. The Ministry of Education said that the UGC-NET exam will be conducted afresh. According to the government, the investigation of the matter of irregularities in the examination is being handed over to the CBI.
According to the statement issued by the Ministry of Education, NTA conducted the UGC-NET examination on June 18, 2024, in two phases in OMR (pen and paper) mode in various cities of the country. On June 19, i.e. today, UGC received some inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analysis Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs for the examination. This information prima facie indicated that the integrity of the examination may have been compromised.
The statement said that to ensure the highest level of transparency and sanctity of the examination process, the Ministry of Education has decided to cancel the UGC-NET June 2024 exam. A fresh examination will be conducted. For which information will be shared separately. Along with this, the cases are being handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for in-depth investigation of the matter.
