Security agencies have issued a major alert ahead of the Republic Day celebrations (January 26). According to intelligence sources, Khalistani terrorist organizations and Bangladesh-based terror groups may attempt to target major cities across the country, including Delhi.

The intelligence alert states that gangsters from Punjab are acting as foot soldiers for Khalistani and radical handlers operating from abroad. These handlers are allegedly using criminal networks to further their agenda and disrupt the country's internal security.

Links with Terrorist Elements

The alert issued by security agencies states that these gangsters are active in Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, and are gradually establishing links with Khalistani terrorist elements.

Ahead of the Republic Day parade on January 26, the North District Police conducted a series of mock drills at sensitive and crowded locations to test the preparedness and response time of various stakeholders and agencies.

Sensitive Areas

During the first fortnight of January 2026, four mock drill exercises were conducted in North Delhi at sensitive locations, including vital installations, historical sites, major markets, and transport hubs, where large numbers of people gather daily.

These areas include the Red Fort, ISBT Kashmiri Gate, Chandni Chowk, Khari Baoli, Sadar Bazaar, and metro stations, which are considered highly sensitive from a security perspective. The objective of these exercises was to enhance counter-terrorism measures and create awareness among the public and agencies to remain vigilant during potential terror incidents.

Republic Day Program

At least 30 tableaux will be featured on Kartavya Path during the Republic Day parade, showcasing a vibrant display of India's rich cultural heritage and developmental achievements. The tableaux will be presented under the themes of the Mantra of Freedom - Vande Mataram and the Mantra of Prosperity - Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).
