Bihar: Fourlane bridge under construction on river Ganges collapses again, 2 guards missing; was being built for 1700 crores

The under-construction four-lane bridge over the Sultanganj-Aguwani Ganga river in Bhagalpur, Bihar, once again got grounded. The superstructure of the bridge under construction fell into the river. At the same time, two guards doing duty on the bridge are also missing after the accident. The SDRF team is looking for them. The entire superstructure above pier numbers 10, 11, and 12 of the bridge has collapsed from the Agwani side, which will be a part of about 200 meters. However, the reason for the accident is not yet clear. This Mahasetu is being constructed by SP Singla Company. Tell that this bridge being built in Sultanganj of Bhagalpur district is being built to connect Khagaria and Bhagalpur districts. The incident is on Sunday evening. Last year also the superstructure of the bridge fell into the river.

Let us tell you that on April 27 last year, the superstructure of this under-construction bridge fell into the river. In the strong storm and rain, about 100 feet long part had fallen to the ground. However, there was no loss of life or property at that time. After this, the work of bridge construction started again. This time around 80 percent work on the superstructure was completed. Not only this but 45 percent of the approach road work has also been completed. This bridge is considered to be an ambitious project of the Government of Bihar connecting North and South Bihar. The initial valuation of this project was 1710.77 crores. Its foundation stone was laid on 23 February 2014 by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. With the construction of this bridge and road, NH 31 and NH 80 will be connected. Please tell us that the length of this bridge is 3.160 km. While the total length of the approach road is about 25 km.

 

The superstructure was claimed to be completed in two months before the accident.

At the same time, before this accident, the bridge construction agency was claiming that the superstructure and approach road would be ready in the next two months. Please tell me that the construction of the bridge is going on since 2015. Its cost is Rs 1710.77 crore. SP Singla Construction Limited Company is constructing it.

 

Questions raised on the quality of construction work

With the collapse of a portion of the Aguwani-Sultanganj bridge after just one year, people have started questioning the quality of the bridge construction. Some are accusing SP Singla Group of making shoddy construction, while some are talking about corruption in construction schemes in Bihar. On the other hand, Parbatta MLA Dr. Sanjeev said that he had raised questions on the quality before and is still raising them. How can this bridge collapse without any reason? It should be thoroughly investigated.

 

Sultanganj Bhagalpur CO Amit Raj, we sent the SDRF team to the spot immediately after the incident... Here 4 SDRF boats are searching everywhere. No casualties were reported but still we are searching. Senior officials are expected to visit the spot today.

 

Rakesh Kumar, an eyewitness to the Aguwani-Sultanganj bridge collapse said, "Initially we thought it was a blast...Later we understood that the bridge had collapsed...It shows corruption in the government...This is for the first time No...This state government is corrupt, it should be investigated.

 

Eyewitness Ranjan Kumar, a resident, said that the same part of the same bridge had collapsed last year as well. As of now, the vehicle has not even moved on the bridge, don't know what will happen if the vehicle does. We think everything will break before that. We want to investigate this. This thing should go to Delhi.

 

SI Birender Kumar of SDRF Sultanganj said that 4 boats of SDRF are here... 2 on one side and 2 on the other side, all boats are being inspected.
