A major accident occurred in Baltimore City Maryland state of America. Here, the three-kilometer-long 'Francis Scott Key bridge collapsed due to a collision with a container ship. All 22 crew members on the ship were Indians. All of these are safe. It is being told that due to the alertness of the crew, hundreds of lives have been saved on the bridge. The crew gave a mayday call at the last moment, due to which many lives could be saved. Let us know the whole story of the accident-

What is the matter?

The Singapore-flagged cargo ship was heading to Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. Then it collided with the 'Francis Scott Key Bridge' of Baltimore.

The bridge almost completely collapsed within seconds. The bridge collapsed and fell about 50 feet (15 meters) into the frigid water below, officials said. The accident happened around 1:30 pm US time (11 am local time) on Monday night.

Officials said that as the ship approached the bridge, the crew gave an alert call (SOS call), due to which people moving towards the bridge were stopped. Many lives could be saved by this.

Many parts of this bridge are still submerged in water. The ship is also present at the spot. Containers of different colors are loaded on this ship.

Along with this, teams from different departments are present on the spot to conduct the rescue operation. People are being searched with divers, boats, planes, and other equipment.

The name of this ship is 'Dali'. Its management is handed over to Synergy Marine Group. The company said all crew members have been located and no one is injured.

How many casualties were there?

Officials have said that at the time of this accident, eight laborers were present on the bridge, who were repairing the potholes. Now six of these people are being searched. Two people have already been pulled out of the water. One worker is fine, while the other is seriously injured. He has been taken to the hospital.

At present, there is speculation as to whether anyone may still be trapped in the cars. On this, Baltimore Fire Department Chief James Wallace said that sonar has found vehicles in the water, but he cannot give more information about it. At the same time, Maryland Governor Wes Moore said that the investigation is ongoing. While state Transportation Secretary Paul Weidfeld said authorities did not believe anyone was trapped in the car.

What is the reason behind the accident?

The ship issued a warning just seconds before the accident that the ship had encountered electrical and other problems. Therefore, the accident could have been prevented due to the mayday call. However, it is not yet clear what is the reason for the power outage.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, citing Synergy Marine Group, said the Francis collided with the Scott Key Bridge after losing control. CCTV footage shows the ship going dark twice in the minutes before the accident. A plume of smoke can also be seen before the collision.

Singapore's MPA said the dock had dropped its moorings before the accident as part of its emergency procedures. Doing so could help slow the passage of the out-of-control ship. Officials have repeatedly said there is no sign of terrorism.

What will happen next?

Authorities have closed the port until further notice and traffic is being diverted. At present rescue efforts are going on. Authorities have said that finding any survivors is their only priority at this time. Moore has declared a state of emergency. He said officials were trying to find out whether there was oil leakage from the ship in the river.

Synergy Marine Group, the company operating this ship going to Sri Lanka, has informed that the crew of the ship is completely safe. The crew of this ship includes 22 people who are Indians. According to the press release issued by the company, no polluted substance is being released from the ship. A qualified Individual Incident Response Service has been started to investigate this incident.

This was no ordinary bridge

US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg stressed, 'The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, which collapsed on Tuesday, was not an ordinary bridge and was one of the cathedrals of American infrastructure. This bridge is so old that many of us Many people were not even born. It won't be easy to fix this quickly. However, we will prepare it together again considering that it does happen.
