Britain's first space mission 'The Start Me Up' failed late on Monday night. Virgin Orbit, the company that started the mission, has been informed about this. The company said that due to a technical fault, the rocket could not reach its orbit.
Hundreds of people turned up to watch the rocket launch. Britain's Science Minister George Freeman has also given his statement on this. He said to encourage the people involved in the mission – We work on such missions not because they are easy, but because they are difficult.
Know first ... how the mission was to be accomplished
The Virgin company has made some changes in one of its Boeing 747 planes and converted it into a rocket-carrying aircraft. After this change, the aircraft was named Cosmic Girl. Some changes were made to the 747 Boeing so that the rocket could be set under one of its wings.
After reaching an altitude of 35,000 feet, Cosmic Girl had to release the rocket under her wing. A vehicle named Launcher One was used to launch the rocket from the plane. After this, the rocket would move toward its orbit.
According to the planning of the mission, between 11.43 pm and 11.48 pm, 9 satellites engaged in the rocket would have been completely separated from it. After this, at 12:20, the satellites would reach their orbit and with this Britain's first space mission would be successful.
Technical glitch broke the dream of Britons
Britain's first space mission went well for a while but failed at a crucial juncture. A Boeing aircraft of Virgin Airways carrying a rocket was released over the Atlantic Ocean in Newkey, South West England. The aircraft reached space easily with the rocket, but during the release of the rocket, there was a disturbance in it and the mission failed.
According to the report of Independent, this space mission was very important for Britain. In this, the identity of many big leaders and Virgin Orbit Company was at stake. The failure of the space mission would be an embarrassment for many leaders. These leaders had started claiming to make Britain a space nation even before the satellite launch. Business Minister Grant Shapps had even claimed that spaceports would be built across the country from where satellites would be launched at low cost.
