Kolkata Knight Riders created history in IPL, secured number 1 position in the points table for the first time

Kolkata Knight Riders have secured the number-1 position in the points table of IPL 2024. KKR achieved this feat for the first time in the history of the league. Shreyas Iyer-led KKR has played 13 matches so far, winning 9, and losing 3 while one match remained inconclusive. In this way, his total marks became 19.

KKR's number-1 position was confirmed due to Rajasthan Royals. Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals suffered a 5-wicket defeat with 7 balls remaining at the hands of Punjab Kings in the 65th match of IPL 2024 on Wednesday. KKR got a huge benefit from the defeat of the Royals, who secured the top position.

Let us tell you that Rajasthan Royals was the only contender who could dislodge KKR from the top position, but it suffered its fourth consecutive defeat in Guwahati on Wednesday. This dealt a big blow to Rajasthan Royals as they were out of the top-2 finish race. Rajasthan Royals will play their last league match on May 19, which will confirm the playoff teams.

two teams decided

However, this victory was a consolation for Punjab as it was already out of the race for the playoffs. There is nothing to worry about for Rajasthan Royals as they have already secured a place in the playoffs, but the Sanju Samson-led team will try to get back on the winning track by winning their last league match.

Let it be known that 65 matches of IPL 2024 have been played and till now only two teams have been able to secure a place in the playoffs. Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals confirmed their places in the last-4. By the way, the fourth consecutive defeat of the Royals has given a golden opportunity to Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad to finish in the top 2. But anything can happen now. There is a tough battle going on between five teams for two places in the playoffs.

The playoffs will also be exciting

It will be interesting to see which other two teams apart from KKR and RR will be able to secure their place in the playoffs. When the race in the league stage has become so exciting, the thrill of the playoffs will certainly be double as teams will be seen trying their hardest to reach the finals.
