The interim budget presented on February 1 for the upcoming financial year 2024-25 was passed by the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Answering the opposition's questions in the Lok Sabha on the interim budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that unemployment and inflation rates are also decreasing in the country.
He said that the government has not made any cut in the items of any welfare schemes in the upcoming financial year 2024-25. Due to the financial strength of the government, the fiscal deficit target has been kept at 5.1 percent of GDP, whereas earlier this target was 5.2 percent.

On the question raised during the discussion in the Lok Sabha regarding unemployment and workforce, he said that according to government data, the unemployment rate was six percent in the financial year 2017-18, which decreased to 3.2 percent in the financial year 2022-23. The youth work force was 38.2 percent in 2017-18, which increased to 44.5 percent in FY 22-23 i.e. it increased by 6.3 percent. They said,
'Government is selling flour and pulses at cheap prices'
In response to the opposition's questions on inflation, Sitharaman said that the average inflation rate in April-December 2022 was 6.8 percent, which was 5.5 percent in the same period of 2023. He said that continuous efforts are being made by the government to reduce inflation and Bharat Flour, Bharat Dal, Bharat Rice, and Onion are being sold at cheaper prices. The result is that retail inflation has decreased.
He said that so far 2.37 lakh tonnes of flour has been sold at the rate of Rs 27.50. At the same time, 3.96 lakh tonnes of onions have been sold at the rate of Rs 25. The Finance Minister said,
'Allocation of Rs 12,400 crore for PM nutrition'
He said that the opposition member had talked about less allocation for PM Nutrition, but in reality, in the upcoming financial year, Rs 12,400 crore was allocated for PM Nutrition, whereas in the current financial year, Rs 11,600 crore was allocated for this item. it was done.
Some MPs had raised questions regarding allocation for schools. In response to this, he said that under the revised estimate of the current financial year, Rs 68,000 crore has been allocated for schools, while Rs 72,000 crore has been allocated for this in the coming financial year.
